  • Charles Chaplin Residence (former), FilmFan (guest) wrote 16 years ago:
This is often referred to as his "Breakaway House." To save money during construction Chaplin used his studio carpenters when they weren't busy. Big mistake! The carpenters were so used to putting together temporary sets they had forgotten how to build permanant structures. As soon as he moved in problems arose, paneling split, ornamental trim fell off the walls, doors came loose and the floors squeaked.
