What a great name for a Hotel. And a great name for an actress, too!

The most overhyped tourist trap in LA. If I were a tourist I'd be deeply disappointed. Super dirty and full of junkies, not to mention the swap meet atmosphere. I used to ride my bike through the boardwalk at night for exercise and there were always some shady character jumping out around you.

Definitely the best movie theater experience in Hollywood. A little pricey but the price of admission weeds out the inconsiderate moviegoers. Never had a problem with people talking or kicking the back of your seat there.

Interesting house history. Been there during the day and dusk. Definitely high on the creepy factor.

This place is dope. The 10 minute or so train ride is for adults and children. Super fun. Highly recommend it if you have nothing to do or want to surprise an out of town guest with some spontaneous activity.

Fun place to visit if you have kids or just want to scratch it off your bucket list. I do like how admission is free but donations are an option. I usually drop a couple ones when I exit. Good to see places like these are here for the public to enjoy.

Shuttle??? Never taken one up or seen one and I've visited numerous times. Parking is a hassle but tolerable. Breathtaking views once you walk around to the back of the building. A must if you're visiting LA. Much better than overhyped Venice Beach.

Impressive property. Just drive up, park and walk. A good feel of how the other side lives. The pool is no longer there. Well, it is but it's filled with dirt and tiled over for low maintenance purposes. I was amazed at how many hidden nook and crannies areas there are in this property.

Super neat property. Unfortunately, the garden in the back is off limits. Would of loved to see the front lawn in its original landscaping. A good feel of old hollywood home.

Vivien Leigh lived here 1938-1939 while filming "Gone With the Wind". Also in redsidence was her "chaperone" secretary Sunny Alexander. When not on Broadway, or bedding her somewhere in middle America, Laurence Olivier stayed here whenever David O. Selznick wasn't aware of Larry's whereabouts.

The original owner was Otto Bismark English (1873-1935). He and his brothers Paul August, and Arthur Ernest English all had 3 beautiful large homes built in Beverly Hills using many US Gypsum products. (All featured in the Dec 1928 USG "Gypsumist" Both Paul my Great Grandfather and his brother Arthur did very well with their investments over the years. Otto and his wife Alice were not as conservative in there investment philosophy and they virtually lost everything in the market crash. Alice was ill and they did commit suicide together in October 1935 by taking poison together. Had they waited just a few months more when the stock market started to recover they may have not been in such extreme financial distress and might have made a better choice.

I was never entirely certain what my grandfathers job was, even though he took me on open houses through the plant at various times. He took me through the Long Beach plant once and I think I've read about the old Santa Monica plant once.

This was the place where Maier Brewing made the infamous "Brew 102," perhaps the worst beer ever bottled. You'd be driving down the Hollywood Freeway and have to make a sharp swerve to the left to avoid plowing into the Brew 102 sign on the side of the building. You see, they actually built the freeway around the brewery, because it was there first. It's jingle went like this: "More than 100 beers we did brew, Perfecting the new finer Brew 102. In the East and the West, Maier Beer is the best. Wonderful, wonderful Brew 102." Yeah, right.

Thanks for tagging this, desu. It amazes me how much history there is. Even in this little corner of LA in what used to be a rail yard. Who knew? Thanks for digging up this info.
