Michael Jackson is buried at the Forest Lawn, Glendale location not too far away. I still remember the day of his funeral as the streets were crowded from news crews from all over the world.

AFV is currently filmed at Prospect Studios at 4151 Prospect St. That is northeast of this location 2 or 3 miles. Prior to that it was shot at CBS Studio Center in Studio City. Raleigh Studios has no audience rated stages, to my knowledge.

Also the site of Rodger Young Village, public housing built in 1946 to provide homes for veterans at the height of the postwar housing crunch. It was leveled in the mid-1950s as the home supply caught up to demand and now no traces remain of it ever sitting at this bend in the LA River.

Yes,this used to be a Douglas Aircraft Plant. This was their sub-assembly area, where they built the F4D Skyray in the 1950s,because the El Segundo Production Plant would be too full some times.

The area where the golf course is now located is the former site of the Basilone Homes. In order to provide housing for WWII veterans and their families, 1,500 barracks were transported here from Washington state and converted into apartments, officially opening on May 1, 1947. The housing development was demolished sometime between 1951 and 1955, and the golf course was opened in late 1960-early 1961. http://www.scahome.org/publications/proceedings/Proceedings.20Killeen.pdf

As of 6-25-12, a buyer has been located for the BT. A new location is being sought, and online ordering has stopped. It looks like the Bodhi Tree will live on, it will just be somewhere else (hopefully). I am on their mailing list, so I will try to update this tag as information becomes available.

I have heard that Gomer Pyle and Andy Griffith were both shot here at this facility (not necessarily on this stage). Though I don't have any evidence, I would think that shooting at the DesiLu Culver City lot (now Culver Studios) would have been the better choice, as the exteriors for both series were shot there. Would have made better economic and logistic sense.

My Grand daughter was quizzing me about jazz the other day, and how I came to like it, and it brought up a mention of Pandora's Box. The first time I visited Pandora's was in 1958; I was junior in high school in Azusa, and my friends and I were trying to emulate the "cool Beat crowd". Over the next few years, I saw some pretty good shows there, hanging out with a coffee or coke, just soaking up some fairly decent jazz, and some cutting edge progressive music and entertainment. But by the time the rock scene came along in '62, I had moved on to more "mature" pursuits. It was a time of naive innocence for most of us, I think: the world was a wondrous place just rife with adventure and promise. Oh, what a few years of "progress" would teach us. It makes me melancholy, looking back, but I don't think I would trade much of what I have now for more of what I had then.

The facade of the Kirkeby Estate was also used in the Sylvester Stallone feature film "Over the Top" 1987. During the final day of shooting at the estate, Stallone drove a semi cab into the front of the house. There were no special effects and the truck actually hit the front of the house. There were shock absorbers built to cushion the structure from damage but during break down the crew was hosing the front walk when there was a large amount of water flowing into the lover level of the home. The truck cab hit the shock absorbers with such force it had shifted the house on its foundations enough to allow water free access to the lower levels. I was on set with the location manager. Not sure if it was ever pointed out to the owners at the time.
