One of the most dramatic police gun battles ever waged on American soil. On February 28, 1997, two notorious criminals - dubbed the High Incident Bandits - carry out an armed robbery inside this Bank Of America. They are spotted by undercover officers, and police act quickly to surround the bank. But the bandits are armed with thousands of imported steel-plated bullets, full body armor and five machine guns, including three AK-47s. This later becomes known as tha Hollywood Shootout..

The Saban Research Institute is among the largest and most productive pediatric research facilities in the United States, and it is one of the few free-standing research centers in the nation to combine scientific inquiry with patient clinical care--dedicated exclusively to children. Its base of knowledge is widely considered to be among the best in pediatric medicine.

In 1988, the H. Russell and Jeanne R. Smith Research Tower, named for the hospital chairman who served as steward of the beleaguered institution in its most troubled days in the early 1980s, was completed. The 10-story research facility symbolized the dynamic future for Childrens Hospital as an international leader in pediatric research and medicine.
