There is no evidence that Elizabeth Short lived at the Alto Nido. Beth Short could not possibly have afforded to rent there, and Larry Harnisch, a noted Dahlia researcher and reporter for the L.A. Times, debunks this myth on his website. Visit www.lmharnisch.com/myths.html

DO NOT RENT HERE! Warning! Do Not Rent Here! The management is horrible and fraudulently inducing you to move in with one price and jacking it up when your year lease is up to ridiculous amounts. Do your research and see how many people are unhappy with this place and have moved or are moving.

I ALWAYS KNOWN IT AS THE carlton apartments and was from the basement to roof a apartment building. there was an parking lot just south next to it, not sure what is build there by looking, and north just across the street was the Orr House that was a bar since the 60's up until who knows last drink I had there was 1980, 81. I grew up in that area from 1959 to 1967 when we moved to Mar Vista.

From Wikipedia: On April 17, 2000, Exploration Technologies Inc., released a city-required, year-long million-dollar study, which cited dangers of methane gas seepage via a previously unknown Lincoln Blvd. fault. The earthquake fault intersects the underground gas storage facility of the Southern California Gas Company at a depth of 6,000 feet, where the gas is stored by the gas company under very high pressures. The peer review report identified a very serious risk of gas migration rushing to the surface as a result of an earthquake. "The massive amounts of gas that would be migrating up to the surface along the fault directly underlies the exact location of where the proposed visitor center is being currently constructed, at the location of the fountain park apartment complex at Lincoln and Jefferson boulevards." Dr. Paul Endres, gas migration expert and critic of the project. In 2002, the Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety (LADBS) required the installation of gas mitigation systems at Playa Vista, consisting of a membrane shield under the buildings, vents, and a series of alarms. Methane is prevalent throughout much of Los Angeles County. Playa Vista's systems in place are the foundation upon which the City of Los Angeles created its new citywide methane ordinance in 2004.

Its base of knowledge is widely considered to be among the best in pediatric medicine.

  • Bank of America, Huronero (guest) wrote 17 years ago:
One of the most dramatic police gun battles ever waged on American soil. On February 28, 1997, two notorious criminals - dubbed the High Incident Bandits - carry out an armed robbery inside this Bank Of America. They are spotted by undercover officers, and police act quickly to surround the bank. But the bandits are armed with thousands of imported steel-plated bullets, full body armor and five machine guns, including three AK-47s. This later becomes known as tha Hollywood Shootout..
