Location is incorrect...the train never made it to this curve, but derailed on the north side of Washington, just opposite the former location of the roundhouse. In photos you can see the train flipped to the east side of the curve, Redondo Junction to the south (the split just below Washington)

In the 1970s, I operated an elevator service company located in the basement level of the Hirsch Mercantile Building. The actual address of the building is 533 South Los Angeles Street.
There was a copy of the original blue prints for this building on file at the Los Angeles Department Of Building Safety and the architect was Curlett & Beelman. The Hirsch mercantile building may have been their only industrial project.

It doesn't say she was one. Only that she has been portrayed as one. Which she was, by the newspapers at the time and several films made since then.

Bella Vista, the old John Barrymore estate (purchased from King Vidor and then expanded on wildly over the years) is NOT the same estate that was demolished by Jon Peters. (The demolished estate is at 9941 Tower Lane. It was built for King Vidor & Eleanor Boardman by Wallace Neff, and there is no trace of it left.) Most of the Barrymore Bella Vista estate is still there, divided and "updated", but the many rambling buildings are still there including the one which once was the famed Barrymore aviary.

Used to go here ALL the time as a kid. First with my parents, then with my friends as a teenager. Sometimes we'd theater hop and see 2-3 movies on a Saturday. There used to be a nice Mexican Place next door too. Can't remember what it was originally called, but I think it was an El Torito at some point. Ate a lot of meals there before and after shows.

Before Boogie Nights, it was called "The Country Club". It was a music venue/nightclub that featured all kinds of bands, although I mostly remember seeing 80's Hair/Glam Metal bands there. Now it's a church. Funny how old clubs become churches and old churches become clubs.

Laughlin Park in the 70s and 80s was a typical affluent community in LA. there were no gates at that time. And there were many middle to upper class families living here. The streets are not publicly owned by LA, but owned and maintained by the Laughlin Park homeowners. In the mid/late-80s, the gates went up and turned this into an exclusive neighborhood.
