I think that the drug overdose use that led to his accidental death sends the message that no matter how confusing life can be, drugs should not be the medicine that relieves the pain. There are a lot of moments in one´s life that one wants to just disappear, vanish, feel no pain, no worry, and cocaine and heroin both satisfy that desire. Cocaine and heroin are very attractive drugs, but the price they charge for the service rendered comes later when the user finds himself in a trap. There is always a moment, the first time when one faces the drug: you can give in, because the attractiveness of the drugs is a huge thing, a huge temptation...or you can resist and by doing so this will be one of the most significant decisions you can make...after this moment your life changes completely...it is like to roads and you have to decide which one to walk on: the one that promises you pleasure and indeed gives you pleasure, but at a very high price and is life-threatning; or the other road, that will require that you search for help in a different and boring way, but will almost certainly save you a lot of trouble and future suffering.

It is such a tragedie that River Phoenix died. He was not only a great actor, he was a great human being as well, and the way he died was very sad. it is very sad no one could help him. I wonder what roles he would play these days....
