  • Devonshire House, Rich (guest) wrote 9 years ago:
Its address is actually 18300 Lemarsh St, Northridge, CA ~ Originally it was 18250 Devonshire St. The house was built by John B Moises of Northridge, CA in 1952 (Building Permit) ... No documents have been found associating this house to Carole Lombard or the Gable's. In addition, none were found for the Hutton's ~ although, most likely erred in translation, Marion Hutton does have reference to 10058 Reseda Blvd ... the west end of Northridge Recreational Center.
  • West Adams Gardens, Donald Ferguson wrote 9 years ago:
West Adams Gardens is a private street that runs between West Adams Blvd. and West 27th Street. Beware of urban myths, especially those fueled by college students. West Adams Gardens (1920) predates the Olympic Village (1932) by 12 years. Yet Olympic Village is brandished in wrought iron on the entry gates on West Adams Blvd. I guess it is a nice marketing ploy and some will believe it.

The Hollywood screen actress Anne Shirley gave birth to her daughter, Julie Payne, in this hospital in July 1940. I've read that her husband, John Payne, drove her there. But I think she did not stay in more than a few days.

  • Laurel & Hardy - the "Music Box" steps, Beto (guest) wrote 9 years ago:
Wow. I used to walk these steps as a kid with my mother on her way to work. A damn dog would run up and down on the left side of the stair case, terrorizing me half way up the climb. Never knew it had historical meaning until now. Thanks, Aaron Rift!

Also one on Mulholland Drive heading westerly just past Skyline Drive.
  • Dead Man's Curve, Art (guest) wrote 9 years ago:
According to the song it's the first curve going west past Doheny, "He passed me at Doheny then I started to swerve But I pulled her out and there we were At Dead Man's Curve" Which makes sense, a little over a mile of near straight road from Doheny to build up speed into the curve at Greenway Drive. Doesn't say anything about going through all the other curves to get to it.

  • Pacific Winnetka 21 Theatre, Brian (guest) wrote 9 years ago:
This theater and the parking area around it used to be the site of the Winnetka 6 Drive-in theater. I spent a good part of my childhood and misspent youth there, lots of great memories. I don't remember when it was torn down, but the indoor theater was built over it sometime in the late 80's or early 90's.

There used to be an El Torito Restaurant there, one of my favorite places to eat growing up, before going to the movies next door.
